training needs

einstein.gifHere’s the training needs we talked about at our lunch on 1st Nov. 2007.  From a selection of ideas on what we would be interested to receive some training on, these are the ones which stood out for people:

Thoughts around ideas for the training morning in February ‘08 with our teams:

To have two subjects one lighter hearted and one more serious:

Lighter:

  • People seemed keen on the idea of a Puppet workshop – the idea would be to have some training on how one person can use a puppet to help tell a story or give a talk – useful for a number of settings eg. Sunday Group, Family/Children’s service or school assembly. If we put this towards the end of the morning we could invite teenagers from our churches who are interested, to join us.
  • Other ideas: Storytelling; Illusions (tricks)

More serious:

  • Special needs – How as churches can we support families and children who are affected by special needs in some way: be that a disability of a child or parent, challenging behaviour etc. For families in our church communities and in the locality. Possible link up with CARE for the Family. Also noted that Lightwater are developing a local group (SMILE) and Brackell Community Church has an established ministry in the this area.
  • Parenting support
  • Holiday Clubs

Thoughts for issues we might to look at during a lunch time meeting:

  • Ministry OF children – identifying children’s spiritual gifts and helping them to find appropriate ways to use them. Related to this was interest in learning how to lead children beyond singing songs and saying prayers into authentic worship.
  • Schools: How to build links with local schools – What are the key issues and how can we connect?
  • It was noted that the Camberley churches has a focus group (headed up by Bernie) looking into the key relational areas.
  • With regard to Assemblies and Schools teams, Woking and Farnham both have established teams that are doing some intersting work.
  • Building a team: How do we support our volunteers and how do we help them to assess their gifts and use them?
  • Yvonne suggested we might find it helpful to sometimes watch one of the Willow Creek leadership dvds and talk about it.

We commented on the issue of how we keep going and get the support we need:

  • Alison has organised Children’s Leaders Quiet days at the beginning of Lent which have been well received.
  • Yvonne is looking into developing an extra stream to Training Events, by possibly preceeding them with an afternoon/evening focussed on prayer and support for children’s leaders.
